Context
In the IT Services team of 10 colleagues, this is an independent role. We are currently working with a number of Cloud network engineering specialists who have been working for us externally. We prefer to hire someone so that you can help to built and manage this new environment. Providing 3rd-line support is also part of this new position.
There is daily international collaboration. With the internal DevOps teams and external parties such as Oracle.
This year the data center was migrated to a Cloud based Oracle environment in Frankfurt. It runs on 3 Availablity Domains in Germany and 1 location in the data center in Hoofddorp for other applications. Many national and international connections we set up between Cloud and data centers. And connections to office networks for public transport companies and other service providers.
We work with Cisco routers and switches. And with code software tool Terraform we keep the infrastructure.
The collaboration with Security & Compliance is important, we work with various certifications such as ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, ISAE3402.
Specific tasks for this position are:
- Maintenance of the existing Oracle Cloud network, like changes, releases and 2nd and 3rd line incidents.
- Guide and train a junior Cloud Network Engineer.
- Participate in troubleshooting and escalations from the support departments, problem solving.
- Responsible for Oracle Cloud Guard (monitoring and follow-up of alerts)
- Responsible for all connections, FastConnect, E-VPNs, O-VPNs, Public Internet End-points.
- Co-decision on design issues, Optimizing the existing network and designing new network elements.
- Network expansion, setting up new locations/floors.
- Responsible for managing network access through credentials issuance to users and parties. (IAM/Usermanagement)
- The configuration and management of Web-based Applications Firewalls (WAFs), Domain Name System (DNS).
- Hardware network management: installing, configuring and maintenance of switches, and corresponding connections.
- You will be part of the DevOps team, and also work with ticket handling.
- Provide input for Security & Compliance.

With what knowledge and experience is this a challenging position for you?
The required basis is HBO working and thinking level in the field of network administration.
- Gained at least five years of experience at various organizations.
- Been independently responsible for the role of network engineer/specialist.
- Being Oracle Cloud Certified is a plus
- Experience with major Cloud providers, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud. Oracle Cloud is a plus. Learning experience: be able to master this type of new knowledge.
- Documentation experience: be able to document network designs well.
- Experience working Agile, contributing in stand-ups.
- Knowledge of SIEM, Terraform en HSM is a plus.
- Experience with Cisco routers and switches.
- Persistent: be able to chase important actions on which you depend.
- Be able to argue your findings; Stress resistant and problem solving; these qualities will allow you to work well with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Your ability to plan well and work in a disciplined manner ensures progress and stability.
- You are used to working with diverse work cultures and communicating in English.
